Local Employers Association for Small and Middle Enterprises Calafat organized in the period 08-09 May 2021, a historical event: Reconstruction of Independence War 1877-1878, within the project “Remember the war, appreciate your freedom” financed under the Interreg V-A Romania-Bulgaria Programme.
The event took place in the area of Independence War Monument “1877-1878” and was conducted by the representatives of Soldiery Tradition Association “Bucharest”, experts in organizing historical re-enactments. In the first day of the event the participants received the equipment purchased in the implementation period of the project and after a technical meeting with Mr. Emil Boboescu, the President of the Soldiery Tradition Association “Bucharest”, they were introduced in the historical atmosphere using explanations regarding the military strategy used in the period 1877-1878, by the Romanian Army in the Independence War. After this short presentation the students went to the field/place of Re-enactment already prepared by the project team with the support of the local authorities.
The students/participants were involved in changing ideas regarding the battle scenario, they had many questions regarding some aspects of the military strategy used in that period and they also improved their military skills through the repetition of tactical moves under the strict guidance of military trainers: Claudiu Vulpan, Mihai Cotei, and Emil Boboescu.
After the lunch break the rehearsal continued with the new step of the scenario: the conquest of the second redoubt “Grivita1” by the Romanian army and the military operations related to the use of artillery in the attack strategy. The representative of the pyrotechnics provider, Alin Panduru, gave advice to the children about the pyrotechnics equipment and he also conducted the children safely in the battlefield. All the movements and tactics were repeated several times.
The second day (MAY 09, 2021) started with a photo exhibition organized in the area of Independence Monument where during the day, the audience had the possibility to see pictures with memorable scenes related to the Independence War.
For more than one hour and a half they were trained and they repeated all the technics learned in those two days. The participants put in scene all the actions for the battle and they continued to practise the movements and actions of the scenario, including the part with “Marita episode”.
Reconstruction of battle – reenactment started with the conquest of the first Turkish redoubt by the Romanian Army and the military operations related to the used artillery strategy. The participants handling the canons in the field avoiding the ground impact effects, crossed the bridge over the Danube, symbolically constructed, and conquered the Turkish positions in the battlefield.
The “Mariţa” episode was put in scene during the tranquil moment before to the final attack, when the young Romanian girl, on the musical chords of a song with historical theme, came to the battlefield and offered clean water to Romanians and Turkish soldiers.
The event continued with the battle sequence related to the conquest of the next redoubt and the Turkish capitulation, and also with the surrender of the sword to the representative of the Romanian Army.
For the event there were used pyrotechnics materials (blank bullets, guns shoots, ground impact effects and also smoke machineries) who gives to the battle a realistic image. The audience (around 1500 spectators) was delighted by the epoch atmosphere created by this historical event in Calafat – Reconstruction of the Independence War 1877-1878, which thus became a representative tourist product for the Calafat – Vidin cross-border area.
